Strathcona County RCMP locate firearm during a traffic stop

 

Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP arrested a 35-year-old male for possession of a weapon during a traffic stop.

 

On Dec.19, 2020 at approximately 11:59 p.m., RCMP stopped a vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 216 for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop police observed a firearm in between the console and divers seat and subsequently the male driver was arrested.

 

A search of the vehicle was conducted and members located and seized a sawed off shotgun, drug paraphernalia, what is suspected to be GHB and a $100 counterfeit bill.

 

Police also determined the identification provided by the male to police at the time of the traffic stop had been altered and the male was actually prohibited from possessing firearms.

 

Scott Richard Simpson (35) of no fixed address has been charged with 11 offences some of which include:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possess counterfeit money
  • Possess firearm contrary to order
  • Possession of firearm in a vehicle

Simpson was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and is set to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Jan 13, 2021.
