Strathcona County RCMP Municipal Drug Unit investigation leads to drug seizure

 

 

Strathcona County, Alta - Strathcona County Municipal Drug Unit (SCMDU) began investigating a drug complaint at the end of July. As a result, on Aug. 26, 2020 a search warrant was executed at a residence located in Edmonton, Alta.

 

During the search, several items were seized including drug paraphernalia, a stun gun, brass knuckles and an undisclosed amount of cash. Police also seized what is suspected to be 557 grams of fentanyl, 947 grams of cocaine, 712 grams of methamphetamine and 805 grams of crack cocaine.

 

During the search of a vehicle on the property, police located what is suspected to be 147 grams of methamphetamine, 4.5 grams of cocaine, 22 grams of fentanyl and 12 grams of crack cocaine.

A loaded handgun and a SKS rifle were also seized during the investigation.

 

Anne Zurita (36) of Nanaimo, B.C has been charged with:

 

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x6)
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous possession (x5)
  • Possession of unauthorized firearm (x2)
  • Trafficking stolen property
  • Possession of restricted firearm without licence (x2)
  • Possession of weapon obtained by crime
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x2)

 

Dray Edwards (26) of Nanaimo, B.C has been charged with:

 

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x5)
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x2)
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous possession (x5)
  • Possession of restricted firearm without licence (x3)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of unauthorized firearm

 

Zurita and Edwards have been released from custody with conditions following a Judicial Hearing and their next scheduled court appearance is on Sept. 30, 2020 in Sherwood Park Provincial Court.
