Strathcona County RCMP arrest male after fleeing police

 

Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP arrested a 31-year-old male for multiple offences after fleeing police.

On Dec. 20, 2020 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Stratchcona County RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle on Lakeland Drive in Sherwood Park, Alta. for a traffic violation when it fled police.

With the assistance of EPS Air 1, the vehicle was located and after the vehicle continued to evade police into Fort Saskatchewan and back through Sherwood Park, a tire deflation device was successfully deployed.

The vehicle continued into Edmonton where it stopped and the driver attempted to flee on foot but was arrested with the assistance of EPS members and their Police Dog Service.

During a search of the suspect incidental to arrest police located bear spray and what is suspected to be 1.08 grams of fentanyl.

Joseph Goodwill (31) of Regina, Sask. was charged with:

  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Resist arrest
  • Possession of an illegal substance
  • Fail to comply (3)

Goodwill was remanded into custody following a judicial hearing and is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Dec. 23, 2020.
