What is the Strathcona County Crime Watch Association - Business Watch program?

Business Watch is a Crime Prevention Program that provides local businesses the opportunity to work with the Strathcona County RCMP.

Participating businesses have access to crime alerts and an open interactive relationship between the businesses and the police, committed to improving the security and quality of living in our community. Our focus is to educate businesses in crime prevention strategies to help reduce crime.

The objective is to have as many businesses as possible aware of criminal or suspicious activity around us. The more well informed eyes and ears there are in the community, the less likely criminal activity will occur and, if it does occur the more likely it will be solved successfully.

Business Watch members information is entered into our computer database. When there is important information or criminal activity, the Liaison Officer or Website Director will send the information out to our members through the electronic fan-out system.  The objective is to give each subscriber clear, concise information as soon as possible. The members are asked to contact the RCMP detachment if they see or hear anything relating to the information they have been asked to watch for.

What if I already belong to Crime Watch?

Both Business Watch and Crime Watch are committed to improving the security and quality of living in our community, but they work on different levels.

We may not have cross over of information between Business Watch for commercial businesses, organizations and groups and Crime Watch which is geared towards residential crime. Therefore if you already have a Crime Watch membership, you will also want to apply for a Business Watch  membership.

What type of information will be received?

The fan-out will provide as much detail as possible about every incident that could affect local businesses. If there was a break and enter theft, we would tell you all the possible details of the incident such as time, place, how it was committed and any suspect vehicles or persons. If a vehicle was stolen overnight, we would provide you with a description and plate number of that vehicle so you could watch for it. If there is fraud occurring, we would advise you of the fictitious company name being used and /or the description of the persons doing the actual canvassing, etc.

How much will it cost?

There is no cost to join Business Watch . This service is provided free of charge to local businesses in cooperation with the Strathcona County Crime Watch Association and Strathcona County RCMP.

How often will I receive emails?

We can not predict when incidents will occur and are committed to getting the information out to you as soon as possible, so the fan-out will reflect recent occurrences

LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO PREVENT CRIME BY BEING THE EYES AND EARS OF THE COMMUNITY AND REPORTING IT TO THE RCMP.

REFER A FRIEND OR NEIGHBOURING BUSINESS TO JOIN; THEN WE CAN ALL HELP EACH OTHER.
